An Istanbul court on Monday ordered the detention of 11 footballers from Turkey’s top two divisions as a sweeping illegal-betting and match-fixing investigation continues to yank the sport into chaos.

According to local reports, nine of the players are accused of betting on their own teams’ matches — a scandal that has detonated across Turkish football.

Among the five Super Lig names charged are Galatasaray defender Metehan Baltaci, Konyaspor winger Alassane Ndao, and Fenerbahce midfielder Mert Hakan Yandas, who allegedly placed bets through a third party. Judges also ordered the provisional detention of nine additional suspects, including two third-division club presidents accused of colluding to fix a 2023–24 season match.
