G ilbert’s downtown skyline could rise a little higher after Town Council last week unanimously approved taller building heights in the Heritage District as part of a push to attract more mixed-use projects and long-term revenue.

Under the amended land development code, buildings in the Heritage Village Center zone may now be built up to 75 feet, with the possibility of up to 90 feet on certain interior sites that meet additional design “bonus” criteria.

Until now, development in the district was capped at 55 feet or four stories, whichever was lower.

Town officials said the change is driven by both market demand and hard fiscal math as Gilbert nears buildout.
