President Donald Trump says he has informed Chinese President Xi Jinping that his administration will greenlight NVIDIA's H200 artificial intelligence chip for export to China, a move that critics say will erode the U.S.'s edge in its tech rivalry with China.
The policy change would "strengthen U.S. manufacturing, and benefit American taxpayers," Trump wrote on social media platform Truth Social. He stated that 25 percent of sales would "be paid to the United States of America."
The H200 is more powerful than NVIDIA’s H20, a scaled-down chip made exclusively for export to China , which the Trump administration cleared for shipment in August. The move was widely viewed as a bid to ease tit-for-tat trade tensions with the world's second-largest economy.
