West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for addressing Bankim Chandra Chatterjee as ‘Bankim Da’ . Addressing a rally in Cooch Behar, Mamata warned the people of West Bengal against electing the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state elections next year, claiming it will destroy Bengal’s culture.
“The PM must apologise for ‘insulting’ Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay by calling him ‘Bankim da’ in Lok Sabha,” the Trinamool Congress supremo said, referring to the PM’s remarks during the debate in Lok Sabha yesterday on 150 years of Vande Mataram.
