Britain is braced for a bitter cold snap later this month as meteorological winter officially commences, bringing with it some decidedly chilly conditions.

Whilst uncertainty remains over whether the nation will witness a white Christmas this year, temperatures are set to nosedive in the lead-up to the festive period. Weather forecasting service WXCharts predicts that some regions will endure temperatures as frigid as -3C, whilst other areas may see the thermometer hover at -2C on December 23.

According to WXCharts' projections for December 23, the boundary areas of South Lanarkshire and Dumfries-shire in Scotland appear amongst the locations set to experience the harshest -3C conditions.
