ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- An appeals court in the Dominican Republic is expected to announce its decision on the conviction of Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco. That's according to Spectrum Bay News 9’s partner newspaper The Tampa Bay Times . Franco was convicted earlier this year of sexual abuse of a minor. Courts found he had a relationship with a 14-year-old girl in the Dominican Republic when he was 21. He was given a two-year suspended sentence. Now at 24-years-old, the former all-star is waiting to see what the court decides. Prosecutors and his representatives have indicated they will take further appeals to the supreme court. Franco could also face discipline by Major League Baseball, who is conducting its own investigation.
