It gives the real thing a run for its money.

Baileys has got to be the ultimate Christmas drink and there are more varieties on the shelves than ever this year, with seemingly no end to the new flavours they dream up — Asda's Blonde Chocolate Flavour Cream Liqueur is definitely one for the Caramilk fans and you can taste the touch of sea salt.

But for the purposes of this test, I stuck to the standard Irish creams and, particularly, the cheapest available in each supermarket. Most offered 700ml bottles, though Morrisons comes in one-litre bottles. Four are the same 17% volume as Baileys, while the three 'country creams' from Lidl, Asda and Aldi are 12%.
