Michael Allio made a promise to his late wife, Laura.

He vowed to continue an initiative they started together — to help people reduce their pain from a common side effect of chemotherapy called hand-foot syndrome, he explained. Laura developed the condition from her treatments for breast cancer.

St. James Therapeutics , a skincare company founded by the couple in 2018, is moving to its next stages, seeking feedback from people with hand-foot syndrome and looking ahead to its next investment round.
