A heartbroken family has paid tribute to their "forever loved" army veteran who died following a motorbike crash.

Emergency services were called to the A1290 roundabout west of Downhill Lane, in South Tyneside, on Saturday (December 6) following a crash.

For reasons yet to be established, it is understood that a motorbike collided with the rear passenger side of a bus just before 1.30pm.

The rider of the motorbike tragically died at the scene.

He can now be named as 35-year-old Simon Miller from Sunderland.

Today (Tuesday, December 9) his family have shared a tribute to him, saying: "Simon was a proud army veteran who served honourably in The Rifles regiment, completing a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

"His courage, dedication, and commitment to his country will never be forgotten.
