There’s a lot to love about strolling, rolling or biking through local parks during the late fall and winter months, when the crowds thin out and the air turns crisp and invigorating.
One thing, though, can ruin those outings: a “closed for the season” sign on a park restroom.
Finding an open park restroom between November and March can be tricky. Many are closed; some parks have only portable toilets, and the ones that are open usually have limited hours.
“Restrooms are expensive to build, clean and maintain year-round,” the city of Vancouver stated recently on its website. “Hours are reduced at park restrooms to align with shifts in service demand. When it gets darker earlier in the day and the weather is colder, fewer people use parks in the afternoon and evening.”
