BISHOPVILLE, S.C. ( WIS /Gray News) - At a South Carolina school, one teacher decided decades ago to skip retirement.

Now about to turn 90, Mark Doty continues walking into his classroom each day at Lee Academy.

While education has evolved with technology in recent years, the Lee Academy science teacher’s passion for teaching is standing the test of time.

“I’m the type of person, I’ve just got to have something to do. I don’t have any idea I would’ve lasted this long if it hadn’t been for the fact that I was doing what I’m doing now,” Doty said.

Doty’s love for science started at an early age after getting his first chemistry set for Christmas.

After serving nine years in the Army, he started teaching on and off. It wasn’t until 1989 that he found his forever home in a science class
