Jason Bateman is opening up about his relationship with older sister, Justine Bateman.

The "Zootopia 2" actor, 56, shared in a new interview with Esquire that he and his sister, 59, "don't see each other a ton." A fellow actor, the elder Bateman appeared in "Desperate Housewives" and "Californication" and has been outspoken on several hot-button political issues.

Jason Bateman, however, did not cite that as the reason for their distance, saying instead that the two, who grew up in Hollywood together, share a unique adult bond.

"There isn't the typical 'We see each other every Thanksgiving or every Christmas and our kids want to be together,'" Bateman told the outlet. "There isn't that. In a great way."

Bateman said he and his sister share "the rich conversations you would have with an adult friend, not the kind of petulant back-and-forth you might have with your adult sibling."

"We hang out, and we're nice to each other because we respect one another as individuals, regardless of the blood thing," he added. "I'm seeing her for lunch next week."

USA TODAY has reached out to the Batemans' reps for comment.

Justine Bateman has been an outspoken critic of what she describes as the rampant cancel culture of the Biden era.

"Trying to shut down everybody, even wanting to discuss things that are going on in our society, has had a bad result," she told USA TODAY in a November 2024 interview. "And we saw in the election results that more people than not are done with it. That's why I say it's over."

The actress and filmmaker, who has not revealed whether she voted for Donald Trump in 2024, has shut down chatter that she and her brother have a rift over politics.

"Anyone bringing up my brother to me for any other reason than to say you like his new upcoming show, or any of his past work, will be muted at best, and blocked at worst," Justine Bateman wrote on X in September. "I'm not interested in your fantasy about some imagined conflict between the two of us over your political ideologies.

"Really, it's sick. So, keep it up. It makes it easy for me if identify yourselves, so I can make an X setting adjustment to never have to hear from you, ever again," she continued.
