SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) Governing Board is scheduled to vote Tuesday night on the potential closure of Echo Canyon School and Pima Elementary School, a move officials said is necessary to address a looming budget shortfall.
The two campuses are located less than 10 minutes apart, and the proposed closures would affect more than 600 students, in addition to school faculty. If approved, the closures would be the latest in a wave of school shutdowns across Valley districts.
Financial Pressures Drive Closure Recommendations
SUSD is currently facing a budget gap that could reach $9 million in the next fiscal year.
District officials attribute the financial challenges to several factors:
