The family of a 15-year-old boy who was fatally shot by police on Montreal’s South Shore announced Tuesday they are taking legal action against the City of Longueuil and Longueuil police officers nearly three months after his death.
Nooran Rezayi, who was born in Quebec to a family originally from Afghanistan, was shot on Sept. 19 after Longueuil police responded to a 911 call describing a “group of armed people” in the St-Hubert borough, according to Quebec’s Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes, the province’s police watchdog.
His family and friends, however, said he was unarmed, carrying only a backpack. The watchdog has since confirmed that no firearm was recovered. The BEI’s investigation is now entering its third month.
