A disgraced former Liverpool city councillor who sent “persistent, wicked and abusive” messages to a colleague has avoided a prison sentence. From October 2023 to as recently as August this year, Gerard Woodhouse sent cards containing vile insults after becoming “fixated” on Labour Party member Christine Banks.

Woodhouse, 62, of Mayfair Close, appeared at Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates' Court this morning (Tuesday, December 9). The former councillor for County ward sent cards to the home address of Mrs Banks, herself a member of the local authority, which were described as “unpleasant and clearly inappropriate”.
