LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) board is expected to vote on Wednesday on pausing Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood's proposal to close, consolidate, and sell several schools in the district.
"It made me feel like a little bit sad that there are people trying to close our school," said King Elementary fifth-grader Kyrie. "I've been here since kindergarten. I love it. I love all my teachers. Really love the school."
Board Chair Dr. Corrie Shull said Yearwood has been asked to provide a more detailed justification for the proposed changes, including their academic, fiscal and logistical benefits.
The board emphasized that the pause is meant to ensure a thorough review, not to reject the need for changes.
