A member of the Georgia House of Representatives was arrested Monday and accused of lying on COVID-19 relief paperwork to receive more than $17,000 she was not eligible for, according to federal prosecutors.
Sharon Henderson, a representative in western Newton County and part of Covington, was accused of two counts of theft of government funds and ten counts of making false statements, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia said in a Dec. 8 news release.
Henderson was indicted by a federal grand jury Monday and was scheduled to appear before a U.S. Magistrate Judge, federal officials said. She was expected to enter a not guilty plea.
USA Today reached out to Henderson and is waiting for a response.
