AUSTIN, Texas — State leaders are pushing for chapters of Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization co-founded by the late activist Charlie Kirk, at every high school in Texas.
During an announcement on Monday at the Governor’s Mansion, Gov. Greg Abbott said 500 high schools in Texas have Turning Point chapters, known as "Club America."
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick promised $1 million in campaign funds to help expand the program to all high schools and colleges in Texas.
Members of Club America chapters from high schools across Texas stood behind state leaders.
Supporters say Kirk was a champion of free speech, while opponents called many of his previous comments hateful.
Abbott responded to a question from a reporter about what he’d say to families who feel the state is inject
