MERIDEN, Conn. (WFSB) - A former teacher at Maloney High School is facing serious charges after police say she had an inappropriate relationship with a student several years ago.

Ciara Picard, 39, turned herself in to Meriden police on Dec. 2. She’s now charged with five counts of sexual assault in the second degree. The incidents happened while Picard was working as a teacher at the school.

Picard had already resigned from her job back in August. The school district called police as soon as they heard about the allegations, police said.

The Meriden Police Department’s Special Crimes Unit took on the case, looking into claims about the inappropriate relationship between Picard and a student who has since graduated from Maloney High School.
