NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A North Charleston man federal officials say was living in the United States illegally is accused of harming a border patrol officer and causing a multi-car wreck.
Alexander Garcia Vargas, 24, is charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding a federal officer.
United States Department of Justice officials from the District of South Carolina say this comes after a Saturday immigration enforcement operation in North Charleston which was carried out by agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations and officers for Customs and Border Patrol.
During this, officers came across Garcia Vargas’ driving a vehicle which was registered in his name.
ICE records showed Garcia Vargas as having a court order for his removal.
