A large great white shark has been detected off the coast of Jacksonville Beach.

Her name is Goodall. She was tagged Sept. 30 off Nova Scotia by a team working with OCEARCH, a shark research group that tracks hundreds of sharks worldwide.

Each shark carries a tag that connects to a satellite system, but they only ping when they come to the surface.

Goodall ‘pinged’ Tuesday morning off the coast of Jacksonville Beach.

Goodall is a 13-foot, 2-inch adult female white shark named to honor Dr. Jane Goodall, a global leader in wildlife conservation.

Great Whites typically arrive in the shelf waters of Florida during the winter after migrating from Canadian and New England nearshore coastal habitats during the summer.
