A shooting at Kentucky State University left one person dead and one critically hurt, officials said. A suspect is in custody.

The Frankfort Police Department said it responded to KSU around 3:35 p.m. about an active aggressor.

Police said a suspect was in custody as of 3:40 p.m.

"We are aware of a reported shooting at Kentucky State University in Frankfort," Gov. Andy Beshear said in a post on X . "At this time, we are aware of some injuries. We will share more information as available. Law enforcement are on scene, and a suspect has been arrested. Let’s pray for all those affected."

Due to the shooting, Kentucky State University said it will be suspending all classes, final exams and campus activities for the remainder of the week.
