In a story that sounds straight out of 1825, a man in Oklahoma was arrested early morning, Saturday, Dec. 6, after being accused of robbing a liquor store with what witnesses told police was an "old-timey musket."
The Tulsa Police Department said in a Facebook post that officials responded to calls of an armed robbery at an area liquor store at around 8:45 p.m. local time on Dec. 5. The store's employees told responding officers that a man wearing a red hoodie and pajama pants tried to buy alcohol without an ID.
After being denied, the man returned, this time wielding what employees described as an "old-timey musket," demanding cash and the employees' IDs, according to the Facebook post.
At around 3:25 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, police said officers received a call from a nearby gas station informing them of the man’s whereabouts.
Suspect arrested, antique gun recovered, police say
Police detained the suspect, who has been identified as 24-year-old Dyllon Redfern, according to the Facebook post.
Along with the allegedly stolen cash and IDs, an antique gun was also recovered during Redfern's arrest, police said.
"For those who are curious, the firearm is likely from the mid-1800s and is a single-shot percussion derringer. It was also called the 'Muff Pistol' or 'Pocket Pistol'. If you’re an antique weapons expert, please chime in on it," police said in the Facebook post.
As of Tuesday, Dec. 9, it is unclear if Redfern has retained legal counsel, as his case is not present in Tulsa County District Court records. USA TODAY contacted the county's district attorney's office, but has not received a response.
Redfern remains in Tulsa County jail with a $75,000 bond for armed robbery and first-degree robbery offenses, according to inmate records.
