More photos and videos show the Ballroom construction underway at the White House, on the site where the East Wing once stood.

Demolition began in October and has made rapid, visible progress. The old East Wing structure has been completely torn down, with large cranes now positioned on the east side. A temporary walkway is also visible on the north side.

The Associated Press assistant bureau chief for photos Pablo Monsivais describes his experience photographing these visuals form the Washington Monument.

"I've been here almost 30 years in DC, and I've never had the opportunity to go up here. It's a spectacular view on all four sides," said Monsivais. "It was just stunning, just to see how much work they've done so far."

The East Wing traditionally housed the first lady and her staff, along with several other White House offices. Those teams are currently working out of other spaces in the White House or in the adjacent office building.
