SANDSTON, Va. (WWBT) - The U.S. Postal Service is about a week away from one of the first holiday shipping deadlines this year, with officials promising packages will reach their destinations on time despite mail delivery issues in recent years.
USPS is using artificial intelligence, new technology, and increased staffing to get the job done.
“It’s the busiest time of year, but it’s the most exciting time of year,” said USPS Communication Specialist Philip Bogenberger.
The Sandston facility processes half a million packages per day during the holidays, while USPS handles 88 million packages daily nationwide during peak season. That represents an increase of more than 20 million packages compared to just last year.
The boost comes from about 600 “High Output Parcel Sorters,” known as
