A former Cocke County High School assistant football and wrestling coach has been charged with statutory rape, according to authorities.

The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office, in a news release, said that Francisco Garcia, 26, had been charged with six counts of statutory rape on Monday. The sheriff’s office said that the case involved a 16-year-old victim, but the victim was not identified since they were under 18 years of age.

Garcia was suspended without pay on Oct. 30 then his employment was terminated Thursday.

The Sheriff’s Office said that the charges were not related to any case involving the student during school hours or school functions. Garcia is being held on a $300,000 bond at the Cocke County Jail.
