WASHINGTON, DC — Legislation to rename a Rockford post office after a late mail carrier has been passed by one branch.
On Tuesday, the US House of Representatives passed legislation led by Congressmen Darin LaHood (IL-16) and Eric Sorensen (IL-17) to dedicate the Harrison Avenue Post Office in Rockford in honor of Jay Larson.
Larson tragically died during the stabbing attack on March 27, 2024, while delivering mail on his route.
LaHood celebrated the life of Larson in a statement.
"Over his 25 years as a letter carrier, Jay Larson exemplified the best of our Midwestern values and fully embraced his role as a public servant," said LaHood. "His work ethic and compassion for others during his time with the United States Postal Service were unmatched."
