Fort Wayne area residents have two opportunities to weigh in on proposed rate increases that are expected to add more than $5 to typical monthly water bills over three years.

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission are inviting the public to participate in the process through a public field hearing and written consumer comments.

Fort Wayne City Utilities is proposing a three-phase $10.3 million increase in its annual operating revenues due to higher operating and maintenance costs, a news release said. The increase will also pay for future infrastructure repairs and improvements, including lead service replacements and improvements to water filtration and distribution.
