CHAPIN, S.C. — Chapin Intermediate and Chapin Middle School will see significant changes next year as Lexington-Richland School District 5 moves forward with a plan to rezone, restructure and rebuild ahead of the 2026-27 school year.
District leaders say the changes are designed to better manage growth in the Chapin area and make more efficient use of existing school buildings.
Superintendent Dr. Akil Ross said the district has been responding to westward growth for years by repurposing buildings and shifting grade levels.
“You had schools like Chapin Intermediate and these intermediate schools because these elementary schools were so packed,” Ross said. “We moved one of the grades from the middle school down into the intermediate. And one of the grades from the elementary school up to
