BILLINGS, Mont. – With holiday shopping in full swing, Billings Police are addressing package theft concerns by offering a new delivery option. Shoppers can now send their packages to the Downtown Billings Office instead of leaving them on their porches.
Package thefts, or porch piracy, tend to increase every December as online shopping surges and packages accumulate on doorsteps. National studies indicate that 250,000 packages are stolen daily, and Billings is no exception.
Samantha Puckett, Administration Lieutenant at the Billings Police Department, explained how quickly thefts can occur.
"It could be, you know, 15, 20 seconds or somebody is just walking down the street and happens to see a package. And so, it happens very fast," said Puckett.
