COPPELL, Texas — This holiday season, postal workers in North Texas are relying on new technology to help move Christmas cards and packages to their destinations on time.
One of the most important steps inside the Coppell distribution center is figuring out what goes where, and a new machine called the package induction linear sorter plays a major role in that process. This linear sorter is new to the Coppell facility and is one of more than 600 recently installed at distribution centers across the country.
Postal officials selected Coppell as a sorter location because of the rapid population growth across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This center already processes millions of pieces of mail and packages every day. Last holiday season, the Coppell plant handled around 60 million packages,
