(WAND) - Illinois public libraries will soon stock opioid overdose medications.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has issued a new order allowing libraries to keep two different kinds on hand.

Trained staff will be permitted to administer the drugs during suspected overdoses.

The move supports a new law taking effect next year, aimed at expanding access to lifesaving interventions.
