A cruise vacation is meant to be carefree, with plenty of time to relax, explore new places, and make memories with family. Most travelers never imagine that their trip could take a dark turn. But for one family, a trip aboard Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas ended in tragedy.
Shortly after boarding the ship last December, an "unruly" male passenger died after being restrained by the ship's security team. The details were unclear at the time, but now, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has ruled his death a homicide—pointing to extreme alcohol consumption, pepper spray, and the use of a sedative as contributing factors.
In response, his family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Royal Caribbean.
