Major League Baseball held its draft lottery at the Winter Meetings today, and the Mets’ first pick will be the 27th overall pick in the draft. As has been the case in the recent past, the team was penalized by ten spots in the first round because of the competitive balance tax threshold that is surpassed during the 2025 season.
The Mets almost wound up with the sixth overall pick in the draft, but having gotten the 17th pick in the lottery instead, they’ll make their first pick near the end of the first round.
Two of the Mets’ current top prospects were first-round picks. The team took Carson Benge with the 19th overall pick in the 2024 draft, and thanks to his spectacular season this year, he figures to feature prominently in the major top-100 prospects lists this winter. And Jett Will
