Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann has been suspended for one game for high-sticking Tampa Bay Lightning forward Oliver Bjorkstrand, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced Tuesday.
McMann had a hearing with Player Safety on Tuesday after receiving a match penalty for the play on Monday.
McMann chopped down his stick on Bjorkstrand, striking him in the shoulder area during a third-period scrum that broke out following a knee-on-knee hit that left Maple Leafs defenceman Dakota Mermis injured.
Lightning forward Gage Goncalves received a five-minute kneeing major and 10-minute game misconduct on the play, while Maple Leafs forward Dakota Joshua and Lightning defenceman Max Crozier were handed five-minute majors for fighting.
