ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- West Virginia Tech’s bid for a men’s soccer national title began swimmingly on Monday.
But the Golden Bears’ lead after a fifth-minute goal only held for nine minutes, and Grand View tallied the match-winner in the 60th minute in a 2-1 decision in the NAIA national tournament final.
WVU Tech concluded its season at 20-1-2 and had its deepest postseason advancement ever.
Leny Duperray scored from Keishon Clarke’s assist in the fifth minute to forge the Golden Bears ahead. The Vikings’ Ignacio Gonzalez tied the contest in the 14th minute off Payton Chapman’s dish, and it remained level until Herman Furumo put Grand View (18-4-3) ahead to stay in the 60th.
