The law enforcement investigation into former Massachusetts governor’s aide LaMar Cook began when police in Kentucky intercepted two packages they deemed suspicious based on several factors, including expedited shipping and discrepancies in the sender and recipient address information, according to search warrants unsealed Monday.
The packages were found to contain more than 14 pounds of cocaine each after the search warrants were executed on Oct. 8, records show.
The discovery set off a series of investigative steps that would ultimately lead to Cook’s recent arrest on drug trafficking and gun charges. The case has shocked the Springfield community and raised questions about the vetting process when Cook was hired.
