BLOOMINGTON — Indiana basketball guard Lamar Wilkerson took coach Darian DeVries’ advice to heart on Tuesday night in the greatest shooting performance the program’s fan base has ever seen.
He led the Hoosiers (8-2, 1-1 Big Ten) to a 113-72 win over Penn State at Assembly Hall with 44 points while going 10 of 15 from 3-point range. He broke Trayce-Jackson Davis’ single-game Assembly Hall scoring record (43) and the program record for most 3-pointers in a single-game.
The offensive fireworks put an end to a prolonged shooting slump for Wilkerson, who came into the game having shot 25% (10 of 40) from 3-point range over IU’s past six games.
Throughout the guard’s struggles, DeVries offered the same straightforward guidance at every turn.
“Keep shooting.”
It inspired Wilkerson’s offen
