Unofficial results from a special election for Iowa's House District 7 show Republican Wendy Larson defeating Democrat Rachel Burns by more than 1,600 votes.

Larson received 2,817 votes, while Burns received 1,201 votes, according to the Iowa Secretary of State's website.

The election, covering Pocahontas, Sac, Calhoun and parts of Webster County, was held to fill a vacancy created when Mike Sexton accepted a position with the USDA .

There were also five write-in votes recorded.

The term for this position will expire in January 2027.
