The PIAA finally did it.
After years of coaches grumbling and fans arguing in gymnasiums across the state, Pennsylvania high school basketball is getting a shot clock. Last Wednesday the PIAA Board of Directors voted unanimously on the adoption of a 35-second clock, starting in the 2028-29 season.
The game is certain to change in a meaningful way, and it is long overdue.
Players dribbling in circles for minutes at a time will be a thing of the past. And thank goodness. Holding the ball is not basketball at its best, even at the high school level.
