One of Coventry’s main routes could benefit from speed cameras in the near future as long as funding is secured and it gets the backing of West Midlands Police . Resurfacing work along Broad Lane in Eastern Green has seen road markings redone but the cabinet member responsible for highways admitted those improvements could also have an adverse effect on the speed of traffic.

Cllr Patricia Hetherton, the city services portfolio holder, met with officers this week and pointed out that the area probably had the two best roads in the city in Broad Lane and Upper Eastern Green Road. But she added: “With that comes the speed and that’s quite clear.

"We spent some time on Banner Lane and were horrified with what we saw at the junctions with Hockley Lane and Broad Lane. It was just terrible
