KALPETTA: It has been alleged that the CPM distributed liquor in Tholpetty, Wayanad, to influence voters. It was some Congress workers who came forward, alleging that CPM workers distributed liquor late at night at the Nedunthana tribal hamlet. Although the police reached the spot and detained three CPM workers, it is said that they were freed by other party members. This created tension in the area.
Later, workers from both parties gathered at the location and the police had to intervene and disperse them. Police had instructed that no one should be present in the area after 7 pm. However, a group of CPM workers and their candidate arrived at night, which UDF workers tried to intercept. As tensions rose, the police stepped in and brought the situation under control.
