A group opposed to Missouri’s new congressional map says it’s gathered more than enough signatures to force a vote next year on whether the map should stay or be tossed out.
People not Politicians Executive Director Richard Von Glahn said Tuesday during a Zoom conference call that the group has gathered more than 305,000 signatures demanding a statewide vote on the map.
“The Secretary of State’s office has confirmed we delivered over 691 boxes,” he said.
The new congressional map, passed by GOP majorities in the Missouri House and Senate, reshapes the mostly urban Fifth Congressional district in Kansas City to include more rural areas, presumably to give Missouri Republicans a better chance to gain a seventh seat in Congress.
