LOGAN – It was obvious from the very first note of “A Kurt Bestor Christmas” that the medium-size audience at the Ellen Eccle Theatre was about to enjoy a traditional holiday show.
Not traditional in terms of musical arrangements; those were all pure Bestor – with his trademark blend of smooth jazz and New Age versions of holiday melodies.
But the touring show was traditional in the sense of celebrating the spirit of Christmas, an innocent pleasure in the joy of familiar tunes and togetherness.
Beneath its fake hip facade, “A Kurt Best Christmas” was little corny and sentimental. But, the last time I looked, that’s what Christmas was all about and the local audience ate up everything Bestor dished out with a spoon.
