Kolkata: Special Intensive Revision ( SIR ) camps were conducted in several red-light areas of Kolkata, including Kidderpore, Kalighat, and Chetla, to help sex workers fill out electoral enumeration forms.
The initiative follows similar camps held in Sonagachi, Asia’s largest red-light district, aimed at ensuring that no eligible voter is excluded.
The camps, held from 11 am to 4 pm, provided guidance to sex workers who often lack proof of ancestry or have lost contact with their families. Officials said about 70 sex workers attended in Kidderpore, nearly 100 in Kalighat, and around 60 in Chetla.
Hundreds had earlier attended the Sonagachi camps with concerns about being excluded from the voter list. The CEO’s office assured that dedicated assistance would continue to address the welf
