A new social media vetting policy introduced by the United States State Department has caused widespread disruption for H-1B visa applicants in India, with many interview appointments abruptly postponed to next year. The US Embassy in India issued an advisory on Tuesday night confirming that numerous applicants have been rescheduled and urging them to strictly follow the new appointment dates.
The Embassy clarified that anyone who arrives at the consulate on their original interview date after receiving a rescheduling notice will be denied entry. It stated that Mission India “looks forward to assisting” applicants on their revised dates but warned that appearing early will result in refusal of admittance.
