A fresh political row involving Congress MP Shashi Tharoor broke out on Monday as he was named the recipient of the “Veer Savarkar International Impact Award”, given by HRDS India, an NGO.

On its website, HRDS India identifies itself as a leading NGO in India, driving CSR initiatives and tribal projects that empower communities with housing, education, and livelihood.

While Tharoor said that he will not be accepting the award on Wednesday evening in Delhi , Aji Krishnan, founder–secretary of the NGO, said that the Congress MP was chosen for the award due to “his work towards nation building”. He also claimed they had met Tharoor regarding the award earlier.
