Young adults in the UK born on certain dates could claim an average of £2,200, it has been revealed . Some younger people across the UK could be able to claim a lost account that could be worth thousands of pounds on average.

Those aged between 18 and 22 may be eligible to access their HMRC Child Trust Fund (CTF) if one was set up on their behalf. These accounts were established for youngsters born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011, with each qualifying child initially receiving £250 or £500 for families on lower incomes.

Parents had the option to contribute up to £9,000 annually to these funds. In cases where a parent did not set up an account, HMRC stepped in, meaning many young people may be unaware of money that is rightfully theirs.
