Three people sustained serious injuries after a gas cylinder blast triggered a fire at a two-storey informal housing structure in Goregaon ‘s Raja Ram Chawl on Mumbai’s western suburbs on Wednesday, officials said.

The blast took place around 7.40 am in a kitchen on the ground floor of the building, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) disaster management cell.

The injured people have been identified as Malti Devi, 28, Sarjan Ali Shaikh, 37, and Gul Mohamed Shaikh, 38. Malti suffered 35 per cent burns, while Sarjan and Mohamed sustained injuries to their legs and back. While Malti and Sarjan are currently in a stable condition, Mohamed is in a critical condition, undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a hospital.
