More than a dozen schools in the Edmonton metropolitan region are dealing with an outbreak of illness, according to a number of local school divisions.
To be deemed under outbreak status by provincial health authorities, 10 per cent of a school’s student and staff population must be considered sick.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Elk Island Public Schools said 10 schools in Sherwood Park, Lamont and Fort Saskatchewan are under outbreak status due to a high number of students and staff experiencing respiratory illness.
Ronald Harvey Elementary School in St. Albert has also reported an outbreak, according to a letter the principal sent to parents this week, and which was obtained by CBC News.
